Roto-Cone Vacuum Dryers for Low-Temperature API Drying
A jacketed, rotating double-cone vacuum dryer with SS316 contact parts, suited to drying heat-sensitive APIs and intermediates gently and evenly under vacuum. Compared with static tray drying, the rotating design cuts drying time and improves batch-to-batch consistency, which matters for products with tight particle-size and purity specifications.
Design Advantage
The double-cone shell rotates slowly while under vacuum, continuously tumbling the product against the jacketed heated surface. This gives more even heat distribution and gentler mechanical action than a static tray dryer, reducing the risk of degrading sensitive material while still drying the full batch evenly rather than just the top layer of a static cake.
Applications
Roto-cone vacuum dryers are used for drying crystalline APIs, intermediates and fine chemicals where uniform particle characteristics and low thermal stress are important, typically in the 100 to 2000 litre capacity range, and are often preferred over tray dryers where floor space is at a premium or cycle time needs to be shortened.
Maintenance & Condition Checks
Because the vessel itself rotates, the rotary vacuum seal and drive bearings are the components most worth inspecting on a used unit, along with the jacket and internal surface condition, before it goes back into service.
Frequently asked questions
- How is a roto-cone dryer different from a static vacuum tray dryer?
- The roto-cone rotates the entire vessel to continuously tumble the product against a heated jacket, giving more uniform drying and typically shorter cycle times than a static tray dryer where trays sit still on shelves.
- What vacuum-tight sealing arrangement does it use?
- The unit uses a vacuum-tight rotary door and shaft seal arrangement, which should be checked for leak-tightness and wear on any used unit before purchase.
- What capacity range is available?
- Typically 100 to 2000 litres, suited to pilot and intermediate production-scale batches of crystalline or granular product.
