Bottom Discharge Centrifuges for Fast API Filtration Cycles
Up to 48 inch SS304/SS316 bottom discharge centrifuges with flameproof motors and hydraulic braking, built for API filtration duty requiring fast cycle times. Where a Nutsche filter or ANFD would take too long per batch, a centrifuge is usually the equipment of choice to keep filtration from becoming the bottleneck in a production line.
How Bottom Discharge Works
Slurry is charged into a spinning perforated basket. Centrifugal force drives the liquid through the basket wall and filter cloth while solids are retained, then a scraper or plough discharges the cake through a valve in the base of the basket without needing to invert or manually unload the machine. This significantly shortens the cycle time compared with top-discharge or manual-unload designs.
Applications
These centrifuges are used across API and bulk drug manufacturing wherever fast, repeatable cycle times and flameproof electricals for solvent-laden atmospheres are required. Basket sizes from 12 to 48 inches and 3-point or 4-point suspension configurations are available to match different batch sizes and vibration/isolation requirements.
Hydraulic Braking & Safety
Hydraulic braking brings the basket to a controlled stop between cycles, reducing wear on the drive and bearings compared with mechanical braking, and shortening the overall batch cycle time. This matters most when centrifugation is the rate-limiting step in a production line.
Frequently asked questions
- What basket sizes are available?
- 12”, 24”, 36” and 48” baskets, in 3-point or 4-point suspension design, with SS304 or SS316 construction to suit different batch sizes and process media.
- Why is a flameproof motor important?
- Flameproof (explosion-proof) motors are required where solvent vapours may be present, as is common in API filtration areas classified as hazardous zones under plant safety regulations.
- How does hydraulic braking help cycle time?
- Hydraulic braking brings the basket to a controlled, faster stop between batches than mechanical braking alone, reducing dead time and wear on the drive train over repeated cycles.
